They were by far the worst "group" of novice drivers I've seen yet. I've seen groups of "ricer" novices embarass themselves. I've seen groups of "Camaro/Mustang" novices embarass themselves...
But these Corvette drivers were AWFUL.
Fastest time in ST was 61.5 (same as my fastest time, I was beaten by a WRX with killer suspension and R-tires at 58 seconds).
There were about 15 Corvettes, one from the 70's, two from the 80's and the rest from the 90's and current. Most of them were putting down 70 second runs. One trailed Z06 with R-tires managed a 61. One 99 Corvette R (whatever that means) with R-tires busted out a 60. Another Z06 couldn't beat 64 seconds.
Anyone else ever see a Corvette club drive so poorly? Was this a fluke or do Corvette owners tend to be bad drivers? It was weird.
I expected to shame some corvettes today when I saw all of them in the paddock, but I couldn't believe the carnage that ensued.

Most Corvette drivers are old men going through a 2nd midlife crisis. Heck, they're even older than the Viper guys. Old men=slow reflexes.

Hey now, I'm only 31. (news for tomorrow night).
I know the vette is SO POWERFUL, that most people don't know how to autocross it. From what I've been told, you have to be soooo very smooth, and soooo very easy on the throttle. Most likely they don't know how to drive at the limit?
Did they have slicks?

I don't mean to bash Corvettes or their owners or any group of drivers. Don't take it that way.
The two fast (posting times at the top of ST class) Corvetted were both on race rubber. One was trailored.
The "fast" Z06 came in an enclosed trailer which was painted color co-ordinated with the sponsor's hats and jackets the driver and crew wore. The driver had racing shoes. I figured they were going to put on a good show. Instead, they finished 3 seconds behind our local FS guru in his stock Camaro SS with race tires. So it wasn't just a case of the course being too tight for big cars.
There was one guy there with a supercharged late-80's/early 90's vette. He spent a lot of his early runs going sideways! It sounded cool.
The Z06's sounded awesome. I wonder if there exhausts were stock, because they burbled and "backfired" just like cars without cats.
